OUT OF THE RED - 2

The Photographic Session

Published by: Primo Marella Gallery
Two years after “OUT OF THE RED”, the first exhibit in Italy to present the new generation of Chinese artists, I chose to dedicate a rather important session to the group of artists who make use of the photographic medium to document their work and to those who use it as a veritable means of expression.
Amongst these, a group took part in the now famous first edition, such as Cui Xiuwen, Huang Yan, Li Wei, Ma Liuming, Wang Qingsong, Weng Fen, while others are presented for the first time, though having been for some time now prominent authors of the new contemporary Chinese panorama, including Bai Yiluo, Cang Xin, Zhu Ming and Wang Ningde.
The exhibit’s aim is to carry out an in-depth acknowledgment of work produced through the photographic medium, predominantly over the course of the last two years, to highlight the progression and expressive growth of this generation which, by experimenting new means of research, defines itself as a reference mark on the international scene.
The selection of artists, with the re-attendance of some, is linked to a continuous and widened analysis elaborated by our work-group, composed of Italian and Chinese curators and critics, on the increasingly dynamic and engaging Chinese scene.
