He Wei’s practice knows no limits of structure. Born in Anhui Province in 1987, the Chinese artist has constantly evolved his methodology of expression, always maintaining a certain attachment to abstract geometry.
It is in this exhibition, entitled ‘Looking behind the curtain of reality’, that the artist expresses his deepest and most visceral attachment to geometry, in a methodical, composed and precise manner.
The artist veers into a new dimension, formed by rigour and calculation, also introducing the use of structural paste. This is a material that plays a very important role, as it is applied by the artist in such a way that it generates a three-dimensional effect, whereby part of the work is raised and extended.
The result is a representation in which the imaginary dimension seems to want to come out, revealing itself to the viewer. This does not only happen in a two-dimensional vision, but the painting tries to reveal itself, materialising in our reality.
The artist emphatically moves towards a purely analytical study of reality, which goes beyond the simple visual aspect, becoming a reworking of the present, now imagined as a fulcrum, a portal, a matrix within which these geometries dance and compose reality.
It is not an introspection, but rather a consideration of a world invisible to the human eye, but imaginable through the use of a simple sentimental canon: harmony.
This is because everything within this composition follows a simple yet firm rule, each of the elements must communicate - through their position and arrangement - balance.
It is expressed through the combination generated by these figures.
The canvas therefore becomes like a window onto this imperceptible dimension, which manifests itself to the artist like an epiphany, revealing itself in a concealed manner, hiding behind what is the curtain of our reality.
