Liu Ding persegue una ricerca basata sulla pratica che manifesta in una serie di media, dalla pittura alla produzione teatrale, come anche al lavoro curatoriale e teorico. Il suo lavoro investiga i diversi meccanismi che regolano il sistema dell'arte. Attraverso i contrasti e i paragoni tra gli archetipi del passato e del presente, Liu Ding esamina le idee mutevoli del cittadino modello, il ruolo degli artisti e degli intellettuali nella società e le condizioni della produzione culturale e la conoscenza storica.
Nato nel 1976 a Changzhou, nella provincia cinese del Jiangsu, si trasferisce nel 2001 nel sud della Cina per fondare a Nanchino il Pink Studio dove continua la sua pratica artistica. Tra i suoi maggiori successi possiamo citare la fondazione del Complete Art Experience Project (2004-2005) e la sua nomina come direttore del Beijing’s JoyArt. Attualmente vive e lavora a Pechino come artista indipendente. Tra le sue mostre più importanti ci sono sia personali che collettive in Cina ed Europa, specialmente in Italia, Germania, Gran Bretagna, Olanda, Norvegia come anche in Russia e Australia.
