Abdoulaye Konaté is featured in the group exhibition True Colors. Textiles: Motion, Colors and Identities, currently on view at MAXXI L’Aquila.
Trained as a painter and a keen observer of clothing, weaving techniques, and African dyes, Konaté places color at the core of his artistic research. His approach is shaped by deep, inclusive, and locally rooted investigations. A rich palette—ranging from white to the deep blue of the Tuareg—transforms his work into a living archive.
True Colors. Textiles: Motion, Colors and Identities showcases works created from 2000 to the present day, where textiles become a medium to explore a wide spectrum of global artistic expressions—turning into paintings, sculptures, immersive environments, and performance art. Starting from the MAXXI Collection, the exhibition features works made with fibers, fabrics, and garments that weave connections with their social context and redefine the museum’s spaces.
The exhibition draws inspiration from a diversity of cultures and practices, highlighting the growing global interest in textile art and techniques such as weaving and braiding. These means of expression reflect both individual and collective identity. From early experiments with fibers and textiles to site-specific installations and participatory performances, the works on view reinterpret the codes of space and society—creating new relationships between identities and traditions, memory and the future.
