PRIMO MARELLA GALLERY
Africa universe
Manifesta Lyon
14 january - 06 march, 2026
Primo Marella Gallery is pleased to present Africa Universe, a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to Contemporary African Art taking place at Manifesta Lyon, France, from January 14th to March 6th, 2026.
The exhibition focuses on a selection of compelling African artists, balancing established masters with a new generation of emerging talents whose dynamism and experimentation demonstrate how the “old guard” is now accompanied – and at times challenged – by a vibrant and inventive younger cohort.
We are delighted that Manifesta is hosting this exhibition, which represents a further step forward in our ongoing history of tracing an expansive and multidimensional map of contemporary African art. Manifesta proposes a carefully articulated artistic program, conceived with and by invited galleries across the Lyon area, offering an alternative platform for galleries in their search for exhibition opportunities beyond traditional spaces. In doing so, it creates a fertile ground for dialogue, experimentation, and shared curatorial visions.
We look forward to extending this type of program further across the Lyonnais territory, strengthening connections with local institutions, galleries, and audiences, and continuing to create meaningful spaces for contemporary artistic exchange.
