Joël Andrianomearisoa on view at The Museum of Fine Arts of Gifu, Japan

"Blows Like a Monsoon: Contemporary Afro-Asian Arts on the Great Journey and Exchange"
Primo Marella Gallery is pleased to announce that Joël Andrianomearisoa's works will be on view in a group exhibition, titled Blows Like a Monsoon: Contemporary Afro-Asian Arts on the Great Journey and Exchange, at The Museum of Fine Arts of Gifu, Japan.
The exhibition, opening on Friday March 13th, 2026 – running until Sunday, June 14th, 2026 –, shows the ancient exchange between Africa and Asia, riding the monsoons across the Indian Ocean, as Samurai Warlord Oda Nobunaga deeply connected to Gifu prefecture, had a Mozambican vassal named Yasuke in the 16th century.

Blows like a Monsoon will not only feature contemporary arts, but also Japanese traditional folding screens from the early Edo period depicting African people.
The show is conceived as an expression of the shifting perspective in contemporary art that arises from movement, offering an opportunity to reexamine one's own identity and reassess the richness of human creativity.
