Joël Andrianomearisoa presents TADY MITADY TADIDY (The Rope in Search of Memory) at the 18th Biennale de Lyon

Primo Marella Gallery is pleased to announce the unveiling of TADY MITADY TADIDY (The Rope in Search of Memory), the new monumental installation by Joël Andrianomearisoa, presented at the 18th Biennale de Lyon, curated by Catherine Nichols – on view at Les Grandes Locos until December 13, 2026 in Lyon, France.

From Cotonou to Antananarivo, Buenos Aires, New Delhi and Paris, these ropes carry with them stories, encounters, friendships and connections, bringing together a multitude of individual and collective memories.

TADY MITADY TADIDY — "the rope that is searching for its own memory” — emerges from an exploration of another interpretation of dreams and emotions: a material searching for its own memory, beyond language and writing. Through the accumulation of countless ropes, the work gives matter itself the possibility of writing life and history.

At the heart of the installation is a question: how can emotions be given a tangible form — something we can inhabit, and through which we can question the world together?

In dialogue with the theme of the 18th Biennale de Lyon, Passer d’un rêve à l’autre / To Pass from One Dream to Another, Andrianomearisoa’s work invites us to imagine another dream: one made collectively, beyond any particular nationality or culture, allowing the force of material to speak through its many possible meanings.
