Primo Marella Gallery is pleased to present ABÉCÉDAIRE DE NOS ÉTATS AFFECTIFS, Joël Andrianomearisoa's project for the 26th edition of the Marcel Duchamp Prize – one of the leading awards in contemporary art, recognising artists whose practices are shaping the international art scene.

Presented in a dedicated exhibition within the collections of the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, the work reflects Andrianomearisoa’s ongoing exploration of emotions, language and materiality. Moving across drawing, painting, sculpture and installation, his practice gives form to narratives that remain elusive, translating intangible emotional states into physical and sensory experiences.

In ABÉCÉDAIRE DE NOS ÉTATS AFFECTIFS, words extend beyond language and become material. Inscribed on paper and metal, they are also translated into abstract textile compositions through a subtle interplay of colours, textures and materials. Meaning emerges through these transformations, where language gives way to sensation and emotions acquire a tangible presence.

Drawing on his Malagasy roots and a broader dialogue with different cultures and geographies, Andrianomearisoa creates delicate yet charged forms that explore the complexity of human experience. His work invites us to consider how emotions can be expressed, translated and shared beyond the limits of words.

The 26th edition of the Prix Marcel Duchamp brings together four nominated artists in an exhibition dedicated to contemporary artistic practices and their evolving languages.

The announcement of the 2026 laureate will take place at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris on Thursday, October 22, 2026, during Paris art week.
