This monograph explores the artistic practice of Hako Hankson, one of the most compelling voices of the contemporary Cameroonian art scene. Through painting, drawing, and mixed-media works, the artist investigates themes of memory, identity, migration, and social transformation, with a particular focus on his recurring engagement with masks as both symbolic and formal devices within his visual language.
The publication also traces the evolution of his practice through a series of solo exhibitions hosted in our galleries in Milan and Lugano, as well as his participation in the Cameroon presentation at the 2024 Venice Biennale, where he contributed to a collective project that further consolidated his international visibility.
Combining personal narratives with broader historical and cultural references, Hankson develops a visual language that reflects the complexities of contemporary African societies and their ongoing dialogue with the world.
