Painting in the service of the ineffable is, today more than ever, a revolutionary act

Alessandro Bianchi Sicioldr is an Italian artist with exceptional technical and expressive mastery. Trained at his father's studio, Sicioldr approached art early on, learning with dedication the methods and materials of classical painting and drawing. A great scholar and assiduous experimenter, Alexander uses both traditional and contemporary techniques in his paintings, enabling him to bring to life extremely powerful and evocative paintings. In Sicioldr's art the references to past currents are multiple. From Surrealism the painter draws irrationality and analysis of the psyche; from Symbolism the dream dimension, the dream as conceived by Odilon Redon. From a more technical and purely visual point of view, on the other hand, inspiration from Mannerism - in the use of color and light, as well as deliberately distorted perspective - and Flemish painters - especially in the extraordinary minuteness of detail - is clear.

Inhabited by characters out of time, the canvases represent the painter's very interiority, his unconscious: mysterious figures, immersed in a dreamlike dimension, solemnly fill the space, an undefined "elsewhere." The visions arise in his mind during the night, and are transformed into painting during the day, thus becoming tangible. "The painting for me must be a window that opens onto a parallel dimension, a living, pulsating planet," says Sicioldr. The viewer is immediately catapulted into this planet full of allegories and enigmas, to be investigated and understood, in an atmosphere that is sometimes contemplative, almost heavenly, sometimes more chaotic, almost hellish. A planet that is a representation of the deep layers of the painter's soul, of the abysses of his mind, and that invites the viewer to a kind of self-psychoanalysis, in an investigation not only of the work and its hidden meanings, but also of humanity itself, its insecurities and fears. What cannot be adequately defined or understood in words is thus skillfully imprinted on the canvas, which becomes the indispensable medium for telling and offering the viewer otherwise indescribable visions.
